Been scanning your post and have found a mountain of valuble information.
Just finished my paint work . based it out in the original white and found it to be a little blaza. Ended up tri coteing with gold pearl to give it some pazazz.
I'm documenting my progress and would like to post some photos but it my be a while. my computer skills are limited at best.
I have a question about suppliers. i have a list of small items. I've been doing the E-bay search and see most of the items I need but with all different suppliers. Whats the deal with the thialand suppliers? Some of their sites look lagitiment and others look iffy or should I stay clear of them.
The headlamp rebuild atricle was intersting and may give it a try if I can locate a h4 in 6v. ran into the same fuel pet cock problems. Ended up doing a up grade to standard petcock (good to know machinist).
Also can I get the two outer side covers off the motor for repaint without extensive disassembly.

I look at the sellers feedback, and read the negative comments. I have bought a lot of parts off of ebay although, none from Thailand I know some on here have and have had good results. I bought my H4 off of amazon I seem to recall seeing 6v H4's on there. I didn't rebuild my old petcock either and I also added an inline fuel filter for extra protection. The only thing you have to be concerned about with removing the covers is the steel screws over time bonds with the metal and locks them in pretty good, so make sure you find a driver that fits the threads exactly. If you have trouble don't force it use a impact driver to loosen it up...you'll probably have to replace the gaskets when you take them off since they tend to stick to either one surface better in some spots and will tear. Fortunately gasket kits are cheap and easy to come by on ebay.
P.S. you can upload photos to a hosting site such as photobucket, then all you have to do is copy the image code there and paste the image code into your post here by right clicking and selecting paste from the mouse menu.

An impact driver is a great tool to use on the phillips head screws but be aware that most #2 phillips drivers and screwdrivers need to have the pointed end ground down a little to allow the driver to fit snugly in the 4 grooves . If the 4 flats on your driver wobble in the head of the screw , meaning your not getting full contact, grind off the point until you do .
That's also the reason the points shatter when you strike the driver with a hammer .
I've never purchased parts from Asia on e-bay but many folks on this site and others have . Quality is always an issue so I'd reccomend looking for parts in the states There are still many N.O.S. parts out there but you'll spend sometime searching .
You can always asked on this forum if someone knows or has a part to sell that you need . Check-out Ohio Cycles on-line , He has a lot of parts in stock and he's always buying NOS stuff so you may also have to call to see if a part is available .
