Proper Air Cleaner Boot?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I ordered and received a Thai air cleaner and boot. Problems are if the air cleaner hole is supposed to line up with the hole in the cover plate it's too short and the small end is really too big for the carburetor inlet. I just clamped that end tight with a hose clamp. Any better alternatives or am I in fact doing something wrong?

There is a metal extension that fits on the end of the carb. Without it the tube will appear too short. The air filter port that the tube fits on is offset. You will have to make a hole in the filter housing to fit the vent tube coming from the top of the engine (post mid 1963 engines)

Spokes is correct , check E-Bay ,you'll see the metal tube often . If not you can go the the auto parts store and pickup an exhaust pipe reducer . If I remember correctly it 1 3/8 x 1 1/2 . The factory air filter actually bolts to a plate under the left side cover . If you get that installed you'll know the length of the adapter tube . Shouldn't be to hard to rigg-up .
You also have 2 tubing connectings (1) from the carb spacer and (2) from the top engine cover that go to the air cleaner .

Ah yes, I see it now! I was looking at pg. 32 of the parts diagram where it shows the air cleaner assy and failed to pay attention to pg. 20 to the carburetor pic with the reducer. Thanks guys!

Sorry, I was a tad late with my handy picture. Looks like the others have answered the topic, though.

I used your suggested pipe reducer but I had to use a Dremel with a sanding drum to thin the small end so that it would fit over the carburetor air horn. I eyballed the distance for the screw hole from the end by holding the adapter under the air horn and marking the distance with a marker, centerpunching the hole and drilling with the Dremel. I got close enough that I just had to open a hole a bit for the holes to line up. Going back to the hardware store to figure out what size bolt goes through the side plate into the air cleaner.

Hey , good job ! If I remember right I used a 1/4" X 4 1/2" SS bolt I had laying around the shop .Don't forget the 2 vent hoses from the carb and cyl. head cover to the air cleaner .

I think I used a #5 longish bolt and nut and it just props up the aircleaner. I've just got the one hose from the float bowl going into the A/C for now. I've gotta get a longer hose for the Cylinder head breather tube.
