Today I got the 62 on the road for the first time. It got a new Florida Antique plate yesterday so it is legal. Motor runs great but I need to slow the idle down a bit. The transmission shifted as smoothly as the clutch will allow it. i have come to the conclusion that the clutch needs replacement. Has anyone had experience with the Barnett set for the Benly? It is the only one that I can find in the US. Ohio cycle has the plates but not the steel discs. While im at it I want to replace every thing. Made my rookie mistake but it came out ok as I found out that the petcock was working properly. I thought it was frozen in the on position but when I ran out of gas this morning and pushed the bike about 3/4 mile and had about that much to go, I decided that it was time to push the petcock lever a bit more firmly. With just a bit more push than normal it moved over to the reserve position and the motor fired up perfectly.
Im not sure that the stator is producing any juice. Does any one know the correct test procedure? \
Other than those minor glitches I was pleased with the bike. I ran it about 30 miles at speed from 5 to 55mph and the old girl put me back to when I was
18 and had my first ca95.

congrats on your first ride on the 62! I often thought of putting an ipod tune from the period and playing it while riding. A ride on a time machine.
The metal clutch plates can really be refurbished on these bikes. Make a hot solution of chrome wheel cleaner and soak the plates. Once clean, scuff the plates with 240 grit wet/dry sandpaper and they will be good for another 49 years. I have done this several times.
The barnett disks or standard replacement clutch disks work fine.

With no baffles in the pipes, I dont know that I could even hear my Ipod even with the custom earplugs that I use on the V strom.
Still not sure that the stator is producing though.

woohoo! get that sucker on the road. Sounds like you're just working through a few bugs now. So why do you think the bike isn't putting out enough energy?

I put a new battery in it but it wants to discharge it if i use the electric starter. Im thinking the first check would be to see if the stator is producing?? Im ordering a set of clutch discs tomorrow. After 35 miles the clutch isnt working normally. It wants to stick fast when I start it after sitting overnight, and then it slips when it finally breaks loose. Ive got the engine running great. Starts on the first kick even when it sits overnight. After my dumb move with the petcock, im happy with the engine. Looking for a set of mufflers or maybe just baffles. I had a local welder patch the palm side hole in the right hand muffler. I dont know what metal he welded in but its not rusting even with the heating of the pipe. The hole was on the wheel side of the pipe so Im thinking of painting the inside of both mufflers with Hi temp black paint and live with it for a while. The thought of 350 for a new set just doesnt sit well right now.
