So I thought I had a ca 95, but I'm starting to think that might not be the case (I'm thinking maybe it's a ca160)- it is a 12v system w/no signals, but the electrical system could have been changed. Can you tell by serial #?

Easy. Look on the frame and on the engine for the VIN # and model #. It will either say CA95 or CA160. Check it out.
