Yeah replacing those rockers would be a great step in the right direction. That would be nice to just throw some different ones in there and take care of the problem.

So, I played with the valve gaps yesterday. When I reduced them to 0, the clacking sound disappeared at idle but was still there at acceleration.
Even when turning the engine by hand slowly, I could hear a 'toc" sound each time the cam was pushing on the intake valves.
Short of replacing the rockers, I dont see what else I could do...
I'll look on eBay.
Anyone replaced those without removing the engine and the head?
I think by removing the timing wheel at the end of the camshaft I can get to the 2 rocker chafts.

You will need to take the motor out and remove the top cover.
I doubt you will get the rockers through the camshaft bearing.

Finished!

Post by srq68 »

This week end I finished putting back the little red one together! I had to unstuck the clutch disk plates after who knows how many years of sitting pressed together!

I still have a little clicking noise in the engine, not related to the head, and some minor carb and brakes adjustments, but I took it around the block and it was nice. This job took me about 3 years working off and on, with a newborn in between!

I want to thank all those who provided me with good advice along this project, and especially Spokes with whom I exchanged some parts.

Now moving on to my next project: 1974 Honda XL 250.... I wonder if there is a similar forum somewhere?

I posted some pix of the finished CA95.... http://www.fourwheelforum.com/forum/alb ... albumid=40

I have the clutch cable cover and the carb covers, just not installed yet.... And yes, the petcock is not the OEM....

Granted the job started about 3 years ago. New wife and baby in between....

That bears a strong ressemblance to my bike.
