C92, To paint or not to paint?

Post by DanUhr »

I have a 1963 (according to the VIN #) C92 which I am restoring. The color is a pink which I understand the group calls "Tokyo Rose". The question is to paint it Tokyo Rose pink (maybe my wife would like the color) or Honda red which makes the bike look great. Is the C92 with pink rare enough to keep the original color? How many C92s were made? I can't find statistics.

It depends on which country you are in.

It seems that if you're going to paint, you may as well do it with a color that you're happy with...and not feel obliged to keep it original because of rarity, IMHO :)

Here's a picture of a 1960 ca95 painted Tokyo Rose: http://cu.motorcycleclassics.com/photos ... id=1487242

Original paint is a lot more important in vintage cars; because they have paint codes.

If you ever sell it you might want to tell the new owner what color it was.

I'd go by choice bearing in mind exotic paints may only apply to your tastes if you sell it...lowering value.

I don't know how many were made or if it matters...other than keeping a hidden spot of original paint open for inspection; everyone could paint theirs and claim it that color, as no records I know of were kept.

Thanks for everyone's opinions and advice. As always you have come through with the goods. I'm painting it red.

There was a 1961 C92 on Ebay the other night, the one with the pressed steel bars and it was real tatty......starting price was $3000 US

It's not there any more, not sure what happened.

What colors was the C92 offered in for 1963?

If pink is rare or only color, IMHO I'd say it loses the originality, collectability and potential value by painting it another color.
