The bikes are four strokes, not two. Notice the oil feed going up into the valve covers.
It was 58 when the first Benly twins came out to play.
There was a very early twin motor on ebay a few months back but there were that few made, I doubt you would be able to get spares for them despite the fact that it looked identical to the motors that we all know.
It had distributer ignition off the right hand end of the camshaft and there were no visible signs of a breather which makes me think it would be a 58 motor that breathed through the crankshaft. This era motor also had a rotary gearbox.
