Most info I've seen on the CA95

New guy here. Found this site kind of by accident. I have owned a few Benly's. Sold most of parts and bikes frelating to anything CA95 last fall. Still have lots of 305 stuff. 3 dreams, couple of superhawk projects and also some scrambler stuff. CB160's, s90, s65, honda cub, CB750's, all sorts of stuff. About 50 in all.

The CA95 has never had a huge following on any forum I have been on except here. Kind of neat to see that.

I have rebuilt a couple of these. Here are some pics of various Ca95's that I have had.

We then made an attempt to take it around Lake Superior. I was on my CA77 Dream. Above picture was on a picnic table near Thunder Bay, ON. The engine on the CA95 puked after only 50 miles. We swapped in another while he rode a spare bike. The swapped in engine ran but not good enough to ride any distance.


Here I am on my CA77. That made it all 1200 miles without any problems except a broken clutch cable.



I also had this pair.

Sold them to a local guy who really wanted the blue one. He already had the other colors.

Also had this one. Was in really rough shape.

I do have some NOS pistons sets that I am willing to sell. Some are honda and some are aftermarket. I have quite a few different sizes. That's all I have for parts right now. I decided to purge myself of all things CA95, not sure why. Probably have anoither one again someday.

Thanks for the post! What I am looking for is a really, really beat up CA95, 1964-1966 for my part-up build, or any really really beat up stamped part, any condition, bent, rusted, twisted, any condition.

I like to mention on the CA95 150 engines fail due to two things that I know of 1st hand.
1.) If the engine has sat for years or decades, the oil in the crankcase turns acidic. If the crank bearings begin to corrode and pit, the outer hardness of the bearing is compromised and the crank bearings will seize. This happened to me. I disassembled the seized crankshaft with a 20 ton press to verify what happened.
2.) Modern multi-weight oils will also kill the CA95 motor. The only oil I will run in the CA95 motor is straight weight DIESEL oil. Why? Diesel oil still has a zinc additive that new oils don't have, due to the catalytic converter and better valve train systems. The zinc compound is a "anti-scuff" additive to reduce wear from metal to metal contact. Also the little CA95 engine runs hot and it destroys the wax additives that make multi-weight oils possible.

I HAD exactly what you needed, not anymore though.

One thing about oil, the other thing is that I use only non-detergent oil. Detergent keeps the particles in suspension which is not a good thing for any of these bikes that use a centrifugal sediment collector instead of an actual filter.

Hey HAHNDA wow a blue one! I've never seen an original blue CA95. I bet he wanted to buy that thing bad. That is one of my goals in life to fix up a CA77 and put some serious touring miles on it. I don't know why but I want to! Like new bearings inside and out, lock-tite and safety wire the whole thing and just go for it.

These little Benlys are tricky that's for sure. They are a bit different inside and not quite as solid IMO but they are still fun as ever to ride around. It's funny how many people are so familiar with the Dream 305 that they just ask me if I'm riding a Dream 305 when they see it in public. :] Sometimes I say yes just to make them happy.
