Paint the engine?

Post by Magpie »

The engine cases look so good on the motor I'm working on, with a bit more cleaning, I could leave them as is. I did paint another one with Duplicolour 1615 and it looks good too. But, are the engine cases (not the covers) painted from the factory? Thanks, Cliff.

My upper/lower engine cases are bare aluminum - no sign of factory painting. No harm in painting them, if that's your preference.

I agree with BTL about painting or not painting the engine cases. I have seen only one CA95 engine bare. The engine's I've worked on were painted. I always repainted them after bead blasting.

I think they were painted from the factory. (IMO) But bare is nice as well.

160 engines are not usually painted, but I paint them. I also painted my recent 150 engine. All with Eastwood ceramic engine paint thru a HVLP gun, much like Spokes.
I know Colorado had corrosion problems- I did too but just filled w JB weld and then prepped for paint as usual.

Crankcase halves are bare, side covers and dip stick are painted, points and filter cover are not painted but have clear lacquer on them.

Haven't seen any snow this year. Beautiful sunny blue sky day with the temp around freezing in the morning. It's supposed to get colder, forecast to -7C for tomorrow. The city pours the salt brine to the roads to stop the ice, it raises hell with the bikes - can't go for a ride without washing the bike afterwards. Cliff.
