Very Basic Conrtrols Question And a Thank You!

Post by Steverinomeiste »

Hi Again Everyone:
I am finished with the cam chain repair and now I am starting on the headlight install. Kartgreen, thank you for the headlight! Please pm me your email for paypal or send me your mailing address so I can pay for your postage. It was quite a bit! I need to pay for that.
Doing this headlight installation, I need to know how switches on the handlebars function. :o . The lights weren't working when I bought my bike and in reading the manuals I haven't run across any captioned pictures of the headlight switch. I can reason out that when the left hand switch is in the up position I get power through the green wire coming from that switch harness, so that wire is probably the high beam and with a little more checking I will most likely find the power for the low beam, but there are three positions, is the bottom position low beam? If so, what is the middle position for? I know these are pretty silly questions. But there not my first silly questions...
Thank You
Steve

The question regarding the 3 position handlebar switch is not silly at all. From what I have seen, the 3 position switch was used on earlier Honda's

I am going to say 1963 and earlier. The middle switch position is off, low beam is down, high beam is up. The handlebar switches from various early Benly's and Dreams are interchangeable. I currently have the same switch on my 66 CA160. Just to prove my case, I also rebuilt an external throttle set up for the CA160, which came from an earlier Honda model.

My stock 1966 CA160 has the three position switch too. Yup, middle off.
