Thailand sellers on eBay -good/bad?
Thailand sellers on eBay -good/bad?
Hi! I see a number of postings for piston rings, I need standard size for 2 pistons, from sellers in Thailand and wondering how anyone's experience has been. They have a lot of good feedback and the prices seem reasonable compared to mother Honda. Thanks, Cliff.
Cliff, its late in the UK and I'm past my bed time but I have a set of STD CA95 pistons and rings (no circlips) that stand me at £50 (GBP). you can have them at that plus postage if you want.
I bought them as a job lot to get some over sizes that I needed.
They will enhance the performance of your C95 as the compression is a bit higher.
They are after market pistons (NOS) but are made in Japan not Thailand.
The ring set that is with them is genuine Honda.
I'll be up for 30 minutes from this post so get back if you can and I'll get a price for shipping tomorrow.
Sam.

Hi! I ordered a set of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/260600924808?ss ... 1497.l2649 The seller has over 2000 postive feed backs however when I ordered the listing said "Genuine parts" and on the confirmation it says "Not genuine parts" so i think I need to send him an email. Cliff.

Now I get a confirmation that the seller has changed the listing to NPR rings and "Not genuine parts". I have no idea of the quality of NPR rings so I have sent him an email questioning what he has sent me, Honda or NPR rings. The bike won't get 500 miles on it my life time, probably less than 100 since I have others that must be ridden too however it would be be nice to put quality parts in the motor. Buyer beware indeed. Cliff.

There is a real language problem from overseas.
"Genuine" simply means it real is a part, maybe not Honda but is IS a part.
"NOS or New Old Stock", to us means and old stock part from Honda that has never been installed, to them NOS means is just an old unused part of any manufacture.
Oh and I have seen many parts sitting on a Honda parts bag or box with the bag or box (and numbers on the box) being the same in various pictures of different parts.
Also many "genuine" repop parts.
It seems only the Japanese use the word "aftermarket" but only occasionally.
There are more examples but I think you get the point.

I guess I answered my own question.
Ordered a set of standard rings, received them with a strange number on the box, sent email asking about that, no response, had a much closer look at the rings, one is broken and with 2 sets of reading glasses on discovered a mix of 25 over and unmarked rings. Well kick me in the ass! I have sent another email over but it's past the 3 day return and I'm here and he's there. The seller is peterreyclassic. He has lots of positive feedback, I need to change mine to negative. My bad for not checking closer sooner.
I'll report any response I get back - if any comes.
Cliff.
Update:
Cliff, you have little faith. He responded to my email quickly with this reply:
Hi Thanks for the bidding. I am sorry in the problem. I mistake to check the ring. I sent NPR ring size std to you. Thank you very much. Peter
So, now I wait the 10-12 days again.

I would only ever order things from Thailand and Asia that have no bearing on mechanical performance or 'workability' - light lenses, rubber bits and pieces etc. I have ordered two cable looms from Thailand and found them to be fine and very useable but for engine or g/box parts I pay a little bit extra and get them from the U.S or Canada. The asian suppliers just can't be trusted with anything like this.
I ordered an NOS carby for a C50 and found this out - absolute junk.
Good luck
Steve

Imagine my surprise when I discovered I could buy a brand new gas cap from the dealer! I didn't buy it from my local dealer though, I had it mailed up from Washington.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned on here but you will have another major supplier in the States for spares real soon.
David Silver Spares of the UK is opening soon in Hanover PA.
