I've used that red epoxy that is cured with heat with success on my fuel tank. It's been over 2 years now and no leaks at all. I would use that to mate the petcock to the tank, especially if the tank is not flat, a gasket will not seat it properly. I think JB weld hold for a while but not too long ...

Finished!
This week end I finished putting back the little red one together! I had to unstuck the clutch disk plates after who knows how many years of sitting pressed together!
I still have a little clicking noise in the engine, not related to the head, and some minor carb and brakes adjustments, but I took ...

So, I played with the valve gaps yesterday. When I reduced them to 0, the clacking sound disappeared at idle but was still there at acceleration.
Even when turning the engine by hand slowly, I could hear a 'toc" sound each time the cam was pushing on the intake valves.

Well, I dont know what to do now. I know that the noise only happens with the engine under power.
I removed the plugs and used my drill with a socket on the nut at the left end of the crankshaft at the points I rotated the engine at 500, 1500 and 2500 rpms and no noise except the gentle clicking of ...

So, the latest:
Engine is closed, new plug installed (one had broken ceramic), timing adjusted. Bike started right up! No smoke, or a very little bit out of #2 cyl. which I can live with.
New problem though: there is an RPM related clack-clack noise in the head near the #2 cyl. The noise stays when ...

Well, some updates: The smoke is gone!
After waiting to find guides without success, I tested them one by one with their respective valve: I put 40 lbs or air pressure in them and inserted the stems: no leak of air whatsoever, so I decided to put them back in. Heated up the head to 250 and put the ...

Thanks Sam, this is a learning experience for me as although I messed with cams and valves, I never dealt with valve guides before.
Yes I got the washers for the springs out of the head and I can see how they would have to fit over the flanges of these guides...
I will look for the tolerances...
